Castiel Vitorino Brasileiro

BYEBYEBORI

In BYEBYEBORI, two dancers meet at a birthday party taking place during the season of the samba school parades. As the film unfolds, the birthday celebration transforms into a Bori ritual that nourishes spiritual consciousness and a Ballroom, where vogue poses express the sacred nature of ritualistic food within Afro-Brazilian traditions. The physical movements show the mental, spiritual, and emotional freedom of human beings as the dancers traverse gestural expressions from the modern and ancient to the traditional and contemporary, exploring love, freedom, loyalty, celebration, and fear. Choreographies developed in diasporic Black cultures, such as the Brazilian Carnival and North American Ballroom culture, serve as key aesthetic, gestural, and philosophical references that portray spirituality as an everyday dance, as instinctive and fundamental as breathing.
